The Round of 16 of the 2018 French Open was highly eventful, comprising some of the most eventful matches. While some results were quite predictable, the others were quite a shock. Let’s take a look at some of the key moments of this year’s French Open Round of 16.
Djokovic beats Verdasco
Score- 6-3, 6-4, 6-2
Djokovic continues what seems to be his much-awaited comeback. The Serb looks in full control and is now surely one of the favorites of the tournament. Although Verdasco seemed a little troubled in the second and the third set we simply can’t deny how flawless Djokovic played.
Cecchinato beats Goffin
Score- 7-5, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3
Undoubtedly, the biggest upset of the day. Cecchinato played probably the best match of his career by beating 8th ranked seed in 4 sets. Goffin has been in amazing form in the tournament but Cecchinato simply refused to give up.
Zverev beats Khachanov
Score- 4-6, 7-6, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3
Zverev showed the world that he is one of the biggest future stars by winning 3 five setter matches back to back.
In a grueling 3 and a half hour long match, at one point it seemed that this might be Zverev last match in the tournament, but the German held on to his nerves and produced a spectacular comeback.
Nadal beats Marterer
Score- 6-3, 6-2, 7-6
Nadal continued his dominating form by winning yet another match in straight sets. He finished the match in just 2 and a half hours and moved one step closer to the record 11th Rolland Garros title.
Schwartzman beats Anderson
Score- 1-6, 2-6, 7-5, 7-6, 6-2
In one of the most spectacular comebacks, the Argentine moves into the last eight for the first time in his career.
After being down to 2 sets to love, Anderson seemed to have clinched the victory. But Schwartzman refused to give up and made a comeback win by winning the next 3 sets back to back.
Halep beats Mertens
Score- 6-2, 6-1
The number one ranked continued her dominating form by breezing into the last eight.
She won the match quite comfortably 6-2, 6-1.
Kasatkina beats Wozniacki
Score- 7-6, 6-3
Another upset, but a great match. The match was suspended on the first day and carried over to the next day. The Russian beauty showed amazing composure against the Australian Open champion Wozniacki in straight sets.
Sharapova beats Williams
One of the most anticipated clashes between fierce rivals Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams left the fans disappointed when Serena Williams retired hurt due to the injury.
